Malaysian shuttler Lee Zii Jia is planning to make a comeback in the US Open Badminton Championships, slated to run from June 24 to June 29, 2025, at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, USA.
The World No.9 is currently recovering from a right ankle injury and remains on a three-month layoff under the ranking protection privilege granted by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
For the uninitiated, the ranking protection can be maintained for 12 months. It started on March 25 for the Malaysian shuttler.
In a recent interview with Chinese broadcaster CGTN, he said: “I’m hoping to make my comeback at the US Open, a Super 300 event, but only if I’m 100 per cent recovered. If anything feels off, I won’t rule out delaying my return.
“My recovery is progressing, but it’s a race against time. I’ve been working closely with Team LZJ to return as soon as possible, but only when I’m ready.”
The Paris 2024 bronze medalist will be eager to avoid rushing a comeback after his injury aggravated in Europe last month.
He featured in the Orleans Masters and the All England but pulled out from the Swiss Open, subsequently applying for ranking protection.
