Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt announced that the Olympic Games will be officially hosted in their city as a part of the Los Angeles 2028.

On Monday, last week, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved the proposal, including Oklahoma City as the venue for women’s softball and canoe slalom events.

Oklohoma will be the only city outside Southern California to host two sports in the entire LA 2028.

LA 2028 officials said that the Oklahoma venue will add to the experience for fans and athletes and reduce the need for construction.

“We accept this unique opportunity with the highest sense of obligation, and we know that we don’t just represent our own city or the United States — we are an extension of the incredible host city of Los Angeles,” Holt said.

LA 2028 plans have been underway since 2017. Instead of taking on additional construction and erecting temporary venues, Oklahoma City was awarded the two events. Officials, added that the softball and canoe slalom events will be held at the best venue possible.

Holt previously said that the city had been working with the leaders of LA28 for the past six weeks.

“This endeavor in July of 2028 will be a communitywide effort that will pull all 700,000 of us together for the next three years in a shared mission,” he said. “Now, we have the opportunity to welcome the world to Oklahoma City and to write a unique chapter in our city’s story.”

Holt will include bringing a resolution to the city council to finalize city’s relationship with the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber — the organizing committee.

Holt anticipates that Oklahoma City will host events everyday at the LA2028.
