Deepak Punia clinched his third silver at the Asian Wrestling Championships while Udit bagged his second consecutive runners-up spot on the concluding day of the event on Sunday.

Punia faced off World No.1 Amirhossein B Firouzpourbandpei in the gold medal match, losing his first point by stepping out. He hardly made a move in the first two minutes, conceding two more points on take down.

He remained defensive throughout and kept losing points.

The gold medal match for Udit against World No.1 Takara Suda started on a pacy note. Suda kept attacking the right-leg of Udit, converting it into points. In the second period, the Indian went on to target Sunda’s legs but the Japanese never allowed to convert it into points, taking a 5-1 lead.

In the last 11 seconds, Suda was completely out of energy but Udit couldn’t convert it, losing 4-6 eventually.

In the 125kg bronze medal playoffs, Dinesh waged a battle in the second period after being down 0-6 in the fiirst.

His rival suffered continuous nose-bleeding and the stoppages allowed Dinesh to take the match 14-12.
