Mattel, founders of the iconic Barbie, celebrated the friendship of Paris 2024 artistic gymnastic team champions Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey of the United States by honouring them with their own dolls.
It was a part of Mattel’s International Women’s Day 2025 celebration.
Carey, the Tokyo 2020 floor exercise gold medalist and Paris 2024 vault bronze medalist, and Chiles, a member of the team that took silver at Tokyo 2020, were honored along side Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham and tennis great Ash Barty.
Carey, describing her surreal experience, said in an interview with People.com: “That’s just a little kid’s dream come true
“Jordan and I have definitely experienced what can come from our friendship and how much easier a journey can be together. So, I’m just really honoured to be a part of this day with Barbie.”
“Especially on International Women’s Day, it just means so many things. Being African-American and having this opportunity to show the younger generation what it’s like not only to have friendships, (but to embrace) the ability to really put your mind to anything,” Chiles said.
When asked how Jordan and Jade celebrate the International Women’s Day, Chiles said, “I’m a gift giver. I’m a girl’s girl, so anytime that I feel like somebody needs flowers, I’m going to give them. It just makes me feel like I brought light into their day,” while Carey mentioned, “I always give off that I am willing to lend a helping hand and have people know that I’m there for them.”
