Six-time World Champion Mary Kom resigned as chairman of the Indian Olympic Association’s Athletes Commission over a message in the WhatsApp Group.

The Boxing legend, in the message, said that she wanted to move on from her responsibilities at IOA.

“I had a good time with IOA. IOA was a good experience of my life. I am sorry to share that I have decided to over (end) my responsibilities with IOA and I am resigning. My good wishes with IOA,” she wrote.

As per a report in the Hindustan Times, Kom is still to submit an official letter and will wait before deciding on the future course of action.

Olympian Sharath Kamal is the vice president of the Athletes Commission along with members like Om Prakash Karhana, Shiva Keshavan, Gagan Narang, Bajrang Lal, PV Sindhu, Bhavani Devi and Rani Rampal.

Beijing 2008 gold medalist Abhinav Bindra has been a member of the commission.

The Athletes Commission was formed when PT Usha took over her role as the president  in November, 2022.

The IOC Athletes Commission was formed to represent the athletes’ body, as per the guidelines, to voice the athletes. It has, however, remained non-functional for a long time after a few initial meetings.
