Rising Indian javelin thrower Sachin Yadav left his opponents behind with a Meet Record in the 38th National Games 2025 men’s event in Dehradun, Uttarakhand on Wednesday.

The Uttar Pradesh javelin thrower produced his best effort of 84.39m in his fifth attempt at the Ganga Athletics Ground, MPSC. It was his personal best, surpassing the effort of  82.69m that he managed in Bengaluru, last year.

Rajinder Singh held the previous Meet Record for an effort of 82.23m in 2015. The men’s javelin throw national record of 89.94m belongs to Neeraj Chopra.

He, however, missed the men’s javelin throw qualifying standard for the World Athletics Championships 2025, which is set at 85.50m.

“My goal was to achieve the World Athletics automatic qualification mark but I missed,” Sachin Yadav said in a post-event interview. “I’m close to my goal and should be able to achieve 85.50m in the next competition.”

Rohit Yadav (80.47m) and Vikash Sharma (79.33m) clinched the silver and bronze respectively.

Olympians Shivpal Singh (76.56m) and Shivam Lohakare (76.45m) breached the entry standard  for the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, which is 75.36m.

The participation in continental event remains a subject to be finalized by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), which will be made after the conclusion of the Federation Cup in April.

The 38th National Games 2025 will conclude on February 14.
