Malaysia will begin their opening Group B clash in the 2025 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship against Hong Kong at the Qingdao Conson Sports Centre, China on Wednesday.

Malaysian coach K. Yogendran has decided to field players on their current form for their opening clash rather than picking them based on their World Rankings.

“After discussing with the coaches, including those in Malaysia, we have decided to select players for tomorrow’s match based on their recent performance rather than their rankings.

“This is a team event so we need to strategise. We field players based on current form and who we believe are best suited to face Hong Kong,” he said in a video shared by the Badminton Association Of Malaysia (BAM).

Additionally, Malaysia are not looking to experiment with the pairings.

Yogendran hinted towards a risk-free approach in the early stage of the continental event with Malaysia set to stick with the existing pairs as listed before.

“Based on their current form, our doubles pair are all in top conditions,” he said.

The last time Malaysia met Hong Kong in a mixed team event was in a 2009 Sudirman Cup Group Stage, where the former won 4-1.

They have never progressed past the group stage since 2017.

Only two teams from each groups will advance to the quarter-finals.
