Great Britain Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies has urged the United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer to take USA President Donald Trump’s lead in banning transgender athletes from women’s sports categories.

Davies’ appeal comes after Trump declared the ‘war on women’s sports over’ by signing an executive order to prevent transgender athletes from competing in the female categories.

Please Keir Starmer can you now do as you said you would & protect all female athletes here in the UK in sport?” she posted on X.

The Moscow 1980 silver medalist has been vocal about the issue, claiming  “mediocre male athletes are stealing women’s medals.”

In a recent Policy Exchange report, she warned that amateur sport policies forced women to “be kind” and “inclusive” at the expense of safety and fairness.

“For too long, those responsible for setting policy within sports have prioritised transgender inclusion over the rights of female athletes,” Davies wrote, adding that “we risk alienating a generation of future female athletes.”

England Hockey has already banned transgender players from participating in the women’s team after reviewing the Trans and Non-Binary Participation Policy and considering the Sports Councils’ Equality Group (SCEG) Guidance.

Sebastian Coe, an IOC President candidate, said he would consider the lead for the Olympics  if elected next month. “We’ve taken the lead at World Athletics,” he told Sky News in December.
