Malaysian singles star Justin Hoh will be joined by his family when he begins his 2025 campaign at the Thailand Masters 2025 on the eve of Chinese New Year, starting Tuesday.
The World No.53 will be joined by his mother, Ng May Kim, and elder brother, Anson Hoh, for the BWF Super 300 event. He will likely take on Singapore’s world No. 33 Jason Teh in the second round.
Initially, the Malaysian was queuing up to celebrate the Chinese New Year alone.
“I will not be alone during Chinese New Year as my mum and brother have booked tickets to fly to Bangkok.
“It’s such a pleasant surprise for me,” said the 21-year-old.
“I won’t have much time to celebrate as I’ll be busy competing, but having them there means I won’t miss the festive season too much.”
Since the death of his father, Hoh Kim Leong, in 2021, the other members of his family have supported his career.
And he is determined to shine in Bangkok under new national singles coach Kenneth Jonassen.
“I’ve been training under coach Jonassen for the last few weeks, and I trust his methods. I feel he can guide me to the next level,” he said.
Assistant coach K. Yogendran will join him. The other Malaysians in action will be men’s singles players Eogene Ewe (world No. 1,002) and independent shuttlers Cheam June Wei (No. 55), Sholeh Aidil Ali Sadikin (No. 82), Tan Jia Jie (No. 90) and Kok Jing Hong (No. 101).
The women’s singles line-up include S. Kisona (No. 76) and Loh Zhi Wei (No. 129).
