Manipur men’s and Maharashtra women’s teams clinched the first gold medals respectively in the triathlon event at the 38th National Games 2025 on Sunday.
Manipur’s Sarungbam Athouba Meitei was the first to win the gold medal in this edition’s National Games while Maharashtra’s Dolly Devidas Patil followed the suit.
The triathlon event consisting of swimming, cycling and running over various distances began two days ahead of the main events in Dehradun, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Athouba completed the triathlon in 1:01:01s at Manaskhand Tarantal at Golapar in Haldwani with a swim time of 09.55, bike segment of 31.53, and run time of 18.09 minutes. He displayed consistency by finishing second in swimming, first in biking, and fourth in the running leg.
His compatriot Telheiba finished with a timing of 1:02:10s, ensuring a 1-2 for Manipur.
Parth Sachin, meanwhile, clinched the bronze for Maharashtra with a timing of 1:01:14s.
“I am happy, but I don’t know why I am not very happy. I just want to keep practicing and play more and more tournaments to get better as I am just 18 years old,” said Athouba after winning the gold.
Maharashtra also completed a 1-2 in women’s event with Dolly Devidas Patil clinching the gold and Mansi Vinod Mohite taking the silver.
Madhya Pradesh’s Aadya Singh clinched the bronze.
Dolly clocked 1:10:03s, which included a swim time of 10:35 minutes, a bike segment of 35:51 minutes, and a run time of 20:37 minutes, Mansi clocked 1:10:43, while Singh, finished with a timing of 1:10:47.
Speaking about her victory, Dolly said, “This is my first gold at any National Games, so I am happy. I practiced really hard for this. I am very relieved.
