India’s para-swimmer Shams Aalam is set to participate at the 2025 Reykjavik International Games, scheduled to run from January 24 to 26.

He was send-off from the SAI’s National Centres of Excellence in Gandhinagar on Tuesday.

The NCOE in-charge Karthiken, senior coach Rina Das and coach Jagnarainsingh were present at the occasion to encourage him as fellow para swimmers looked on.

In 2024, Aalam was ranked World No.1 by the World Para Swimming (WPS) in men’s 100 m butterfly (S5 category) and men’s 50 m breaststroke (SB4 category).

Later in November, the paraplegic swimmer — affected by or relating to paralysis of the legs and lower body — set the World Record for longest open water swimming.

The 2025 Reykjavik International Games will feature 10 disciplines, including swimming, athletics, badminton, dance, darts, e-sports, fencing, judo, karate, shooting, and table tennis in the first week.

The second week of the event will run from February 1 to 8.
