His British coach James Hillier, the Athletics Director at Reliance Foundation acknowledged the performance, saying “This is also the joint fastest mark in Asia. A personal landmark for me as a coach. My 13th (hopefully not unlucky for me) senior Indian national record. Thanks as always to the incredible team of staff @rfyouthsports and other athletes in the group that keep pushing Tejas to improve”.

The 22-year-old finished fifth in the final by equalling the National Record with Polish athlete Jakub Szymanski taking first place with a time of 7.41 seconds.

Shirse also holds the National Record in the men’s 110m hurdles event which he set at the World Athletics Continental Tour (Challenger level) meeting in Jyvaskyla, Finland, last year. He clocked 13.41 seconds to win the final breaking the previous record of 13.48 seconds set by Thingalaya in 2017.
