Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao is eager to settle scores against World No.21 Weng Hong Yang at the 2025 Indonesia Masters, starting next week after an early exit at the India Open 2025.

Jun Hao was beaten by the Chinese shuttler, regarded as the next Lin Dan, in straight games at the R16 clash in New Delhi. Their head-to-head record is now 2-1 in favor of Hong Yang.

Former World No.1 Lin Dan won five world titles and two Olympic gold medals in his decorated career.

Meanwhile, Hong Yang, hailing from Fujian, China like Dan, has an impressive resume which includes four World Titles.

The national singles coach Kenneth Jonassen has shown faith in Jun Hao.

“Jun Hao has the ability to challenge Hong Yang all the way, but against a top player like him, you must take the initiative and keep pushing. However, it will be very tough,” said Jonassen.

“Jun Hao must trust his abilities to make a difference on court.”

He is also likely to face World No.9 Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan and World No.1 Shi Yu Qi of China in the first half of the US$420,000-event.

In the women’s singles, World No. 47 Goh Jin Wei will be in action against Taiwan’s Hsu Wen Chi after her early elimination at the Malaysia Open 2025, last week.

World No. 59 K. Letshanaa will face World No.61 Amalie Schulz of Denmark in the qualifying round.
