Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will be eyeing her second consecutive title at home in the India Open 2025, starting from Tuesday, months after clinching the Syed Modi India International 2024.
She has started to train under the Badminton Association of India’s (BAI) newly appointed women’s singles coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama who will be alongside her at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall at the Indira Gandhi Stadium.
The Indonesian coach is credited for the success of men’s singles players Jonatan Christie and Anthony Ginting. He was previously employed with Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh Indonesia.
On accepting the coaching role in India, he earlier said: “PBSI as my employer did not send me to the China Masters & Superseries Final Championship without informing me,” Irwansyah was quoted as saying by CNN Indonesia.
“And until now there is no clarity and reason why I was not sent and included to accompany the players, then I decided to accept one of the offers from abroad,” said Irwansyah. “I wanted to try a new challenge and seek new experiences living abroad with my wife and children. My family and I decided to accept a job offer as a coach in India.”
Notably, Sindhu has trained under multiple coaches in the recent past. She had appointed former India badminton player Anup Sridhar as the coach on a trial basis, joining her South Korean consultant coach Lee Hyun-il.
Currently ranked 14, Sindhu will begin her women’s singles campaign against Anupama Upadhyaya, continuing her patient pursuit towards the title.
