Ending an administrative tussle at the Indian Golf Union, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) recognised the Harish Kumar-led election opposing the other body headed by Brijender Singh, in a letter signed by president PT Usha.

The letter, in possession of Olympic First, confirmed Basant Kumar Repswal as the secretary general while Manoj Joshi was named as the honorary secretary.

The National Olympic Association issued the statement after investing the details by IOA observer during the election held on December 15.

Two Annual General Meeting’s (AGM) were held on Decemeber 15.

Singh was elected as the President of the Indian Golf Union for a second term in unopposed elections held at the India Habitat Centre, under the supervision of Returning Officer Justice (Retd) Rameshwar Singh Malik, while Shetty was elected the new president under the supervision of Justice (Retd.) OP Garg in an AGM meeting where 21 Member State Golf Associations assembled at the IOA premises.

Shetty during the election highlighted that “Justice Garg, the legally appointed Returning Officer had conducted the election process systematically and smoothly without allowing any disqualification attempts and the results are a true reflection of the wishes of the majority in the General Body of the Indian Golf Union.

“Any other so-called election results declared for the Indian Golf Union has no legal sanctity since they were arising from a blatant and illegal interference with the elections process.”
