India’s breakthrough Olympic star Lakshya Sen defeated French counter-part Alex Lanier to clinch a bronze medal at the King Cup International Badminton Open 2024, Shenzhen, the People’s Republic of China, on Sunday.
The top-ranked Indian shuttler got the better of the World No.18 21-17, 21-11 in the third-place playoff match.
Sen, whose highlight this year was entering the Olympic men’s singles semi-finals at Paris 2024, earlier lost to World Junior Champion China’s Hu Zhe’an in the final four contest while Lanier lost his clash to eventual champion Anders Antonsen of Denmark.
The Dane claimed the King Cup International Badminton Open 2024 final by overcoming the teenage sensation Hu Zhe’an 18-21, 21-11, 21-18 in a three-game thriller at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center.
