Sonam Malik, the Tokyo Olympian, underwent knee surgery at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute after missing out on the Paris 2024 berth.
The 22-year-old was operated by well-known surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala who was also India’s Chief Medical Officer at Paris 2024.
She sustained the injury during the wrestling trials for the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers in Patiala as her right calf aggravated during the opening 62kg bout against Monika in March.
“I would like to thank my elders , Dr Dinshaw pardiwala and team OGQ. With their encouragement, I successfully underwent my knee operation and am on the path to recovery.————.कभी हारने का इरादा हो तो उन लोगो को याद करना जिन्होंने कहा था “तुमसे नहीं होगा””, she said in an Instagram post.
The rising Indian wrestler had an existing knee injury and had taken a painkiller before the bout but the injury aggravated early.
The 2023 Asian Championships bronze medalist will be vying for her second Olympic appearance at LA 2028. She was knocked out in the opening round at Tokyo 2020.
