Spotlight was on Madhya Pradesh’s teenage pole vaulter Dev Kumar Meena during Monday’s track and field competitions at 38th Uttarakhand National Games on Monday at Sports College Campus.
On his way to winning the gold medal the 19-year-old Meena scaled 5.32m to improve the previous national record of 5.31m set by the Services jumper S Siva in 2022.
The mark of 5.32m was also better than the National Games record of 5.31m in the name of Siva.
Monday’s second National Games record tumbled in women’s hammer throw.
Anushka Yadav of Uttar Pradesh hurled the iron ball to a distance of 62.89m to win gold and better the previous National Games record of 62.47m set by Tanya Chaudary in 2023.
Tanya however, settled for second position with a throw of 59.74m.
The men’s shot put title went to Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor of Punjab. His gold medal winning throw was 19.74m.

Triple jump: Niharika Vashisht (Punjab) 13.37m, Sheena NV (Kerala) 13.19m, Sandra Babu (Kerala) 13.12m.
