In a slow start for the hosts, Wushu player Tapas Achom brought early glory to Uttarakhand in the 38th National Games 2025 on Thursday.

Achom, originally from the Imphal district of Manipur, bagged the first gold for the hosts in Wushu’s Taolu event.

His father, Iravant Singh Achom, is a teacher while his mother Brojeshwari Devi is housewife.

He migrated to Uttarakhand due to his professional commitment in an Info and Techno Solution Company in Dehradun, where he has been working since the last one year.

The top podium finish brought joy to the state with Achom advising the youngsters of the state to learn the martial arts technique in order to participate in national and international events.

As per a report in the Dainik Jagran, Achom has been honing his skills for a decade. He was able to represent the state under the guidance of coach Anjana and was supported by his company.

He, however, faced a lot of struggle while moving to senior level.
