Spotlight on the opening day of track and field at the 38th National Games on Sunday was on men’s 100m dash and 10,000m race.
While Odisha’s Animesh Kujur equaled the National Games record of 10.28 seconds on his way to winning gold, Sawan Barwal of Himachal Pradesh improved the National Games 10,000m record by clocking 28:49.93 which was better than the previous record 28:54.29 set by Gulveer Singh in 2022.
The women’s 100m title went to Sudeshna Shivankar of Maharashtra, whose gold medal winning time was 11.76 seconds, an offiicial AFI media release said.
