Bihar’s Soman Rana and Telangana’s Deepthi Jeevanji clinched the top podium finish in the Men’s F57 shot put and Women’s 400m T20 event respectively at the 23rd National Para Athletics Championship in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday.
The National Record holder from Bihar threw the iron ball to 14.42m to beat Paris Paralympics bronze medalist Hokata Sema (SSCB) 13.53m while SSCB’s Shuban Juyal finished in third place with a throw of 13.53.
“We (Hokata and me) train together in Army Paralympic Node in Pune. We are very good friends, who help each other. It feels happy to win the gold,” said Rana, who had finished fourth in Tokyo Olympics and fifth in Paris.
Hokata said he’s very happy for his friend Rana.“It was a football ground. The platform was not good, it moves when you throw and when we throw with full power, we lose our balance,” said Hokata.
In the Women’s 400m T20 event, Jeevanji finished in 57.85s while Haryana’s Pooja (1:08.21) clinched a silver and Haryana’s Bhuvi Agarwal (1:09.24) claimed the bronze.
