The 23rd National Para Athletics Championship 2025 began on Tuesday, with Haryana’s Navdeep Singh claiming gold in the men’s javelin F41 gold in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai.

The Paris Paralympics gold medalist, representing Haryana, threw the spear to a distance of 39.93m to claim the top podium finish while Lakshya Choudhary of Uttar Pradesh finished second (34.21m) and Ritender (Delhi) came third at 32.93m.

“I am a little sad about the performance because my target was something else. I wanted to touch 40m, but it is OK as I haven’t been training off late. I will work on my mistakes,” said Navdeep.

He is eager to take part at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix to be held in New Delhi from March 11 to 13.

“I am more than eager to participate. First of all, it’s happening in India for the first time. This is the opportunity for the people of India to see how Paralympians compete. I will come to play,” he said.

In the men’s javelin throw F54 event, Uttar Pradesh’s Dipesh Kumar (28.76m), his state compatriot Pradeep Kumar (24.50m), and Tamil Nadu’s Imran Rasool (22.30m) took the top three spots.
