Ahmedabad is re-shaping with the vision of the 2036 Olympics. In this bid, three lands of ashrams, including that of rape-covict Sant Shree Asaram Ashram, will be acquired for the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, which could be turned into the Olympic village.
According to a report in the Times of India, the three ashrams in question here—Sant Shree Asaram Ashram, Bhartiya Seva Samaj, and Sadashiv Pragya Mandal—will be shifted to alternative locations.
The city’s blueprint for world-class sports facility spans to 650 acres.
A source familiar with the matter told TOI, “With regards to the Sant Shree Asaram Ashram, Bhartiya Seva Samaj, and Sadashiv Pragya Mandal, the collector’s office will complete pending proceedings by the law. The Land Parcel Finalisation Committee will decide on providing alternative land or compensation for construction. Sadashiv Pragya Mandal has requested to retain structures at their current locations. The master plan may accommodate this, subject to cooperation in handing over other land parcels.”
A three-member committee, including the Ahmedabad municipal commissioner, the Ahmedabad district collector, and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) CEO, have already initiated the process of acquiring the land.
The master plan for the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and Olympic Village is being prepared by international consultancy agency Populous, as per the report.
According to the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) sources, the lands to be used has been identified and a preliminary report has been prepared.
“Private plots will be acquired through TP schemes, and leased lands given by the state, including those of the three ashrams, will be taken back. The issue of providing alternative sites for these ashrams is under consideration,” AUDA sources stated.
