A guard stationed at the 2026 Milano Cortina construction site has died due to frigid overnight shifts, authorities have confirmed on Saturday.
Following the tragic incident, Italy’s infrastructure minister, Matteo Salvini has called up for a full investigation into the circumstances of the 55-year-old worker’s death.
As per the Italian media, the death occurred on January 8, when the worker was on duty with the temperatures dropping to -12 degree celsius.
Cortina city officials said they were “deeply saddened and troubled by the death.’’
The death occurred a month before the Olympic Winter Games.
Curling, sliding and women’s Alpine skiing will be hosted in Cortina.
