Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei are likely to be a part of the 2025 Sudirman Cup, slated to run in Xiamen, China, from April 27-May 4, despite parting their ways.
Last week, the World No.4 parted ways with the consent of Badminton Association Of Malaysia (BAM).
National mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto said six mixed doubles pair could be named for 2025 Sudirman Cup with Tang Jie and Ee Wei in contention.
World No. 3 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and world No. 14 Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin are certain to make it to the squad.
Nova also clarified that Tang Jie and Ee Wei might not play together.
“They are no longer a pair, but Tang Jie and Ee Wei can still be useful in the Sudirman Cup,” Nova said.
“They have the ability to partner other players. They will be part of the team individually and will be considered if we decide to field a scratch pair.
“We still have time before finalising the squad, and Tang Jie and Ee Wei remain on the long list.”
Nova added that the final squad for the 2025 Sudirman Cup could be announced this week while the coaching staff may opt to wait until after the Badminton Asian Championships in Ningbo, China (April 8-13).
The deadline for submitting the national squad for Sudirman Cup is April 14.
Ee Wei has previously partnered Pang Ron (mixed doubles) and Pearly Tan (women’s doubles) while Tang Jie has played with various mixed doubles partners.
Malaysia are drawn with Japan, France and Australia, in a tough Group C.
