Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie, the Malaysian mixed doubles pair, will look to make the most of their short centralised training camp ahead of the 2025 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, slated to run from February 11 to 16.

The husband and wife pair will join a host of young Malaysian players for a three-day training camp at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM), from Thursday to Saturday.

The Malaysian camp will head to Qingdao, China, on Sunday.

Talking about the camp, Shevon said, “As we all know, the pressure in team events is different from individual tournaments. So, we will use these three days to build our communication and get to know each other better.

“This time, the lineup does not include top players, and we are not very familiar with some of the players joining. There is also a significant age gap. For me, communication is key, just like it was at the Sudirman Cup,“ she said when met after a training session today.

Shevon has an experience of team events. She was a part of the Malaysian squad that won bronze at the 2023 Sudirman Cup and will use her past experience to assist the national team.

“We have played in team tournaments before, with the last one being the Sudirman Cup two years ago.

“So, I hope the experience that Soon Huat and I have can help our team, especially since many of the players this time are young,” she added.

Malaysia has been drawn with Indonesia and Hong Kong in the Group B. They are yet to win a medal at the continental event.

Only the top teams have will advance to the quarter-finals.
