India’s Priya Konjengbam will become the first representative from the North East region when she takes the court at the 2025 All England Open Badminton Championships, starting Tuesday.

The Manipur native, along with her women’s doubles partner Shruti Mishra, will take on top-seeded Korean pair, Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee in the first round at the Birmingham’s Utilita Arena in England.

It will mark the fourth international match for Konjengbam.

. “I feel very lucky to be participating in this championship. Our opponents are among the top-ranked players in the world. Winning or losing is secondary — we have a lot to learn from this experience. All the skills I’ve learned during training will be put to use in this match,” Priya told Northeast Live from Birmingham.

In 2025, Konjengbam began her journey on a strong note by securing third place in the Iran International Challenge. She also reached the German Open R16 while being knocked out in the Orleans Masters 2025 R16.

The Moirang Phairembam Leikai native from Manipur has been celebrated across the North East region, for becoming an inspiration for generation of athletes. She will be next seen in action at the Swiss Open 2025, starting March 18.

Konjengbam played a historic role in India’s historic victory at the Asian Badminton Women’s Team Championship 2024.
