The world’s best shuttlers are once again descending on Birmingham with the fields confirmed for the 2025 All England Open Badminton Championships.
The 32 players and pairings who will compete for honours across the five traditional disciplines have been announced, said an official media release.
This is the latest step in the countdown to the next edition of the world’s oldest and most prestigious badminton tournament, which starts at Utilita Arena Birmingham on March 11.
2025 All England Open Badminton Championships: Men’s singles
2018 winner Shi Yu Qi of China carries the top seed in the men’s singles competition.
Last year’s victor Jonatan Christie returns to defend his title and is seeded third in a stacked field.
Anders Antonsen is seeded second and Olympic gold medallist Viktor Axelsen fourth with the Danish presence once again set to be strong.
2025 All England Open Badminton Championships: Women’s singles
With Spaniard Carolina Marin yet to return to the sport after the Olympics, the onus will be on Korea’s An Se Young to regain the title she won in 2023.
There are three Chinese players in the top five in the seedings, namely Chen Yu Fei (2), Wang Zhi Yi (3) and Han Yue (5).
2022 winner Akane Yamaguchi will hope to make more positive memories in the West Midlands as she carries fourth seed.
2025 All England Open Badminton Championships: Men’s doubles
The last player or pairing to three-peat at the YONEX All England were Indonesians, Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir in the mixed doubles from 2012 to 2014.
Aiming to make history will be another Indonesian pair in Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, who came out on top in both 2023 and 2024.
Top seeds in this discipline are Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
2025 All England Open Badminton Championships: Women’s doubles
Korea has dominated women’s doubles at the YONEX All England in recent years, with players from the nation taking the last two titles on offer.
Top seeds Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee are among the favourites to make it three in a row.
The new top Chinese pair is Tan Ning and Liu Sheng Shu, with Olympic champions Jia Yi Fan and Chen Qing Chen not playing together at the tournament.
2025 All England Open Badminton Championships: Mixed doubles
Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong, who have won the last two titles in this discipline, do not return to seek a third.
The top two seeds are still Chinese, however.
Jiang Zhen Bang and Huang Dong Ping are first seeds and Feng Yan Zhe and Wei Ya Xin second.
