Ahmedabad’s Dhairya Parmar, seeded 11, came back from a game down to defeat 12th seed Monish Dedhia 4-2 in the men’s final of the GNFC 5th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2024, organised by Bharuch District Table Tennis Association (BDTTA) under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association, played at the Sports & Recreation Club, GNFC Township in Bharuch from August 2 to 4.
While GNFC is the title sponsor, the tournament is supported by Sports & Recreation Club, GNFC and Stiga is the equipment partner.
Unlike the men’s event, where all the top seeds bowed out before the final, the women’s top seed Filzahfatema Kadri of Surat overcame a slow start to beat second seed and her city mate Frenaz Chipia 4-2 in the summit clash.
The U-19 boys final saw third seed Dhyey Jani of Bhavnagar win the title after Surat’s 4th seed Aayush Tanna injured himself during a cliff-hanger of a final.
Ahmedabad’s fifth seed Pratha Pawar crushed second seed Riya Jayswal 4-1 to take the girls U-19 title.
Ahmedabad’s third seed Abhilaksh Patel had the U-17 boys title after a no show from an injured Aayush in the final.
Surat’s 12th seed Sanaya Achha, after upsetting the top seed and the fourth seed earlier in the tournament, had to dig deep during her 3-2 win over the seventh seed and her city mate Daniya Godil to win the U-17 girls title.
Ahmedabad paddlers dominated the U-15 category with the fourth seed Jenil Patel winning the boys title after registering a 3-1 win over the second seed Ved Panchal of Vadodara while second seed Mouboni Chatterjee beat 12th seed Khwahish Lotia with similar margin to grab the girls’ title.
Second seed Dev Bhatt of Rajkot got the better of fourth seed Nairit Vaidhya of Kachchha 3-1 in the U-13 boys final while top seed Daniya cruised past third seed Fiza Pawar 3-0 in the U-13 girls final.
Top seed Dhruv Bhambhani of Kachchh took care of second seed Henil Langalia of Bhavnagar to pocket the U-11 boys title while girls’ top seed Misha Lakhani of Ahmedabad had to fight hard for her 3-2 win over second seed Dhimahi Kabrawala of Surat for the U-11 title.
